Whiskn is a recipe and cooking community platform operated by Jack Peters, trading as Whiskn, based in Worthing, England, UK.

What data we collect
When you use Whiskn we collect:
- Account data: email address, username, display name, profile photo, bio.
- Content data: recipes you create, posts you share, comments, cooking logs, saved recipes, shopping lists, meal plans.
- Usage data: pages visited, features used, time spent on the platform.
- Payment data: subscription status (actual payment details are processed by Stripe and never stored by us).
- Communications: direct messages sent between users are stored securely in our database and are only accessible to the sender and recipient. We do not read or monitor private messages except where required by law or to investigate reports of harmful content.
Why we collect it and our legal basis
We process your data under these legal bases:
- Contract performance: to provide you with the Whiskn service you signed up for.
- Legitimate interests: to improve the platform, prevent abuse, ensure security.
- Consent: for optional marketing communications and analytics.
- Legal obligation: to comply with UK law including tax and financial regulations.
How we use your data
- To provide and improve the Whiskn service.
- To process your subscription payments via Stripe.
- To send you important account notifications.
- To power AI features (your data is sent to Anthropic to generate meal plans, shopping recommendations and cooking assistance).
- To analyse how the platform is used via Vercel Analytics and PostHog.
- To prevent fraud and ensure platform security.
Who we share your data with
We share data with these trusted third parties:
- Supabase — database storage (EU servers).
- Stripe — payment processing.
- Anthropic — AI features (meal planner, cooking assistant, smart shopping list).
- Vercel — website hosting and analytics.
- PostHog — product analytics (EU servers).
We never sell your personal data to third parties.
How long we keep your data
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it (e.g. financial records for 6 years).
Your rights under UK GDPR
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data.
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Delete your account and all associated data.
- Export your data in a portable format.
- Object to processing of your data.
- Withdraw consent for marketing at any time.

AI features disclaimer
Our AI powered features (Smart Shopping List, Whiskn Assistant, AI Meal Planner) use Anthropic's Claude AI. Responses are generated by AI and should not be treated as professional nutritional, dietary or medical advice. Supermarket price suggestions are estimates only and may not reflect current prices.
