Whiskey. Bitters. One glorious fat ice cube. Two minutes start to finish. The drink that never goes out of style.

A note from us

Never shake an Old Fashioned — shaking makes it cloudy and over-diluted. A gentle 20-30 second stir with ice is all it needs. The expressing of the orange peel is not optional — the citrus oils on the surface of the drink are part of what makes an Old Fashioned smell and taste the way it does.

What you need 🛒

Bourbon or rye whiskey60 ml
Angostura bitters2 dashes
Sugar cube or simple syrup1 cube / 5 ml
Orange peelto garnish1 strip
Iceas needed

How to make it 👨‍🍳

1

Drop the Sugar cube or simple syrup into a rocks glass. If using a sugar cube, add the Angostura bitters directly onto it.

2

Add a small splash of water and muddle (press and stir with a muddling stick or the back of a spoon) until the sugar dissolves. If using simple syrup, just stir it straight in with the bitters.

3

Add one or two large pieces of Ice.

4

Pour in the Bourbon or rye whiskey.

5

Stir slowly for about 30 seconds — you are chilling and diluting the drink, not aerating it.

6

Express the orange peel over the glass — hold the peel skin side down over the drink and give it a firm twist. You will see a fine mist of orange oil spray onto the surface of the drink. This aromatic step transforms the cocktail. Run the peel around the rim of the glass then drop it in.
